Description from the seller
Majolica Tile – Leaping Hare in a Medallion – 17th Century
Square tile in polychrome tin-glazed earthenware (majolica) with a hand-painted dynamic animal scene, depicting a hare (or rabbit) jumping to the right, head turned back.
The animal is drawn with manganese outline and filled with antimony yellow, set against a stylized landscape of blue flowers and tufts of blue grass. The scene is framed by a double circular yellow border. The corner blocks feature cobalt blue border motifs (Corner motifs).
The lively composition, the fresh glazes, and the rustic subject make this a highly decorative piece representative of 17th-century ceramic production.
