Brass figure of the Hindu goddess Kali with many arms and a skull necklace from India, about 29 cm high and 24 cm wide (29×24×7 cm), dating to the late 20th century, original and in good condition, from a private collection.
Description from the seller
Expressive and richly worked brass figure of the Hindu goddess Kali.
Kali is a significant goddess in Hinduism and is traditionally depicted as a powerful, formidable manifestation. Characteristic are the extended tongue, the numerous arms with various attributes and weapons, and the striking necklace of heads or skulls.
The figure shows Kali in a dynamic, combative pose. In her many hands she holds various symbolic objects and weapons, including blades, a trident, and other attributes. Beneath her feet lies a lying figure, as is typical for Kali representations.
Particularly elaborate are the face, the tall headdress, the jewelry, the individual hands and weapons, and the figurative design in the pedestal area. Through the plastic detailing the figure has a strong sense of depth.
The surface shows a warm brass- to bronze-colored patina with darker recesses, which particularly emphasize the numerous details.
On the back the original casting structure is clearly visible. There are also, in places on the front, age- and material-typical traces of oxidation and patina, including greenish discolorations in places.
