Description from the seller
Expressive and richly adorned bronze group of figures featuring Garuda and a multi-armed deity.
It depicts the mighty, winged Garuda, a significant mythological figure in Hindu and Buddhist tradition. Garuda is shown with wide-spread wings, a distinctive bird head, and elaborately worked body ornamentation. On its back or above it sits a multi-armed deity, holding various attributes and weapons in its hands.
The composition is rendered very dynamically and shows numerous finely worked details. Particularly striking are the large, symmetrically spread wings, the richly ornamented clothing and Garuda’s jewelry, and the design of the multi-armed figure.
The figure stands on a stepped, square pedestal, giving it a stable stance.
The bronze surface shows age- and use-related patina as well as smaller irregularities, discolorations and wear. In the recesses darker patina traces have formed, further highlighting the sculptural form.
