Description from the seller
Rare complete six-volume ensemble of the Works of Boulanger, published in Amsterdam in 1794.
Nicolas-Antoine Boulanger (1722–1759), French writer and thinker of the 18th century, is especially known for his studies on the history of religions, myths, and the origin of institutions.
The six volumes are kept in their original calf bindings, richly adorned with gilt decorations on the spine, with catchwords.
An especially interesting provenance: the volumes bear the seal of the Library of the Physiological and Pharmacodynamic Research Laboratory Auguste Lumière, 45 rue Villon, Monplaisir, Lyon. This provenance links the set to the scientific and documentary environment of Auguste Lumière, a major figure in Lyon's scientific history.
State
Complete six-volume set. Original bindings showing rubbing, as well as signs of time. Paper browned with foxing and signs of use, some markings (3) in pencil erasers. Some visible defects on the pages.
The library stamps constitute original provenance marks and have been preserved.
