Description from the seller
Georges Crehay was a painter and belonged to the Liège School of Landscape Painting. He was a son of the painter Gérard-Jonas Crehay and was part of an artist family from Spa. His oeuvre consists mainly of landscapes from the surroundings of Spa, forest views, river landscapes, winter scenes and hunting scenes. He mainly worked in oil paint and emphasized the nature of the Ardennes.
The artwork features an atmospheric forest landscape in which a small waterfall flows through the forest between rocks. A dirt road leads to the right among the tall trees toward the background. The work is characterized by a restrained palette of greens, browns and ocher tones and a subtle, warm light treatment. The richly decorated gilded frame enhances the classical character of the painting.
The painting is in good condition for its age; only the frame shows a few cracks. Signed lower left by the artist.
