Words from Shepard:
Today, I’m releasing this NEW offset Op-Art Icon print, which evokes both nostalgia and current events. Here’s the story: in the early 90s, I fell in love with the psychedelic posters of the 1960s, created by artists such as Victor Moscoso, Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, Rick Griffin from San Francisco, and John Van Hamersveld from Los Angeles.
I was particularly drawn to optical art patterns (op-art) and the color theory used in psychedelic art.
For a few years I had been creating black-and-white stickers of André. I decided it was time to explore new horizons, with more playful backgrounds and color explorations, so I began experimenting with op-art motifs and vibrant, intense colors.
Part of the pleasure lay in the progress I was making in color theory, and the other part in the sharp reactions that André’s psychedelic stickers provoked.
This image echoes my early-90s explorations, but goes much further in how the colors weave through the Icon Face image and create a subtle translucency thanks to the spray-paint texture.

Shepard Fairey (Obey) is close to artists such as: Banksy, Invader, Vhils, Blek Le Rat, PichiAvo, C215, Seen.

Keywords: André Saraiva, Ai Weiwei, Basquiat, Blek Le Rat, PichiAvo, C215, Cartier, Christo, Dface, Dior, Daniel Arsham, Ed Ruscha, Herman Miller, Hockney, Imbue, Invader, JR, JonOne, Jeff Koons, KAWS, Keith Haring, Liechtenstein, Mr Brainwash, Murakami, Doodle, Orlinski, Parra, PichiAvo, Pez, Sandra Chevrier, Snik, Tracey Emin, Virgil Abloh, Vhils, Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara.
