Antique hexagonal wall display cabinet made of wood and glass from France, estimated to date to 1900–1910, in good condition with minor signs of age; height 50.5 cm, width 56 cm, depth 17 cm, weight 4.1 kg.
Description from the seller
This is an antique, hexagonal wall display cabinet, probably dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The cabinet is made of dark-stained wood, likely oak, with a rich aged patina and visible signs of use that come with its age. It is designed to be mounted on the wall.
Exterior:
The cabinet features a striking hexagonal shape, with two slanted side panels forming the front beside the central door. The top is adorned with a decorative, carved wooden pediment or crown moulding, giving the cabinet a refined, classical appearance. The front door is divided into nine smaller glass panels (3x3), each framed by wooden bars. The door is equipped with an original, detailed brass or bronze-coloured key plate (shield) around the keyhole. No key is included. The right side of the door has small hinges. The two slanted side panels are also glazed, allowing a good view of the contents from different angles.
Interior:
The inside of the cabinet is fully painted in a vivid red color, in keeping with its age. Behind the glass of the door and the side panels are two glass shelves, creating a total of three display compartments. The red interior contrasts beautifully with the dark wood and provides a perfect backdrop for exhibiting small collectibles.
Back:
The back of the cabinet is made of untreated, weathered wood, underscoring its authenticity. At the upper corners on the back are two metal, screwed-on mounting brackets by which the cabinet can be attached to the wall.
Dimensions (approximate):
Height (including the pediment): ~65 cm
Width (maximum): ~50 cm
Depth: ~15 cm
