Desnudo con velo oriental, an oil on canvas by Mario Ros (XX), 2016, 40 × 30 cm, hand-signed, original edition, Spain, depicting a seated nude seen from the back with an oriental multicolour veil.
Description from the seller
We present at auction this oil-on-canvas-on-panel work, depicting a delicate composition of a nude female figure seen from behind, seated and slightly turned toward the viewer, creating a pose of great naturalness and elegance. The model's gesture, with the face turned to the left and the gaze lowered, introduces an intimate and contemplative element, while the long headdress inspired by the East that falls over her back establishes a magnificent chromatic contrast against the luminosity of the flesh tones.
The figure is built through a careful gradation of ivories, pinks, ochres and soft violets, with a lighting that especially traverses the back, shoulders and the curve of the hips. The modelling is delicate, avoiding excessively abrupt contrasts and ensuring that the anatomy gains volume through very progressive tonal transitions. The seated posture also allows for an interesting study of the legs and the natural tension of the musculature.
One of the most striking elements is, without a doubt, the multicolored veil or headdress. Reds, carmines, oranges, yellows, blues and violets blend through small overlapped brushstrokes that suggest both the richness of the fabric and its folds and reflections. The treatment is freer and more vibrant than that used on the skin, establishing a very effective technical differentiation between textile matter and the human body.
The greenish-gray background is resolved with broad, visible brushstrokes, with areas of greater material buildup. This execution provides an enveloping atmosphere and makes the model's silhouette stand out. Also particularly interesting is the contrast between the fused areas of the flesh tones and the more energetic impastos of the background and the headdress, a device that concentrates attention on the figure.
The work participates in a figurative tradition in which the nude becomes a study of light, anatomy and color, incorporating also an orientalizing suggestion that gives it a particular decorative appeal. The result is a sensual painting without artifice, elegant and of notable chromatic richness, especially suited for collectors interested in the academic nude and in figurations of oriental-inspired influence.
A photo is provided where the painting is shown framed. The work will be shipped UNFRAMED.
