Description from the seller
Oil painting on canvas mounted on board, in which the author brings to the genre of everyday life painting and seascape a scene of great visual appeal where a smiling young woman appears in the foreground, walking on the sand while the wind gently stirs her hair and the white and bluish dress she wears. Around her, several seagulls cross the space and reinforce the sense of freedom, movement, and sea air.
The figure is constructed with a position slightly offset from the center, allowing the landscape to have a fundamental presence. The low horizon opens the composition toward the sea, while the sky occupies a large pictorial surface dominated by different blues. The brushwork, visible and dynamic, makes the sky not a uniform surface, but an atmosphere in constant movement.
The treatment of the dress constitutes one of the major technical attractions of the work. Mario Ros uses whites, pale blues, violets and small grayish touches to build the folds, reflections, and transparencies of the fabric. The impastos are particularly perceptible in certain areas, creating a vibrant surface in which light seems trapped in each brushstroke. This use of material aligns with the painterly language documented in other works by the artist, where dresses and fabrics are resolved through an impressionist, nervous, and tactile brushstroke.
The face and flesh tones, by contrast, receive a more delicate and modeled treatment. The pinks, ochres, and oranges stand out intensely against the blue of the sky and allow the figure to acquire a warm, human presence. The smile and the body posture convey spontaneity, turning the scene into a celebration of luminosity and the coastal atmosphere.
The seagulls, strategically distributed across the sky, add depth and rhythm to the composition. Some are merely suggested by quick white brushstrokes, while others show greater definition, creating different planes of distance.
A fresh, luminous work with a marked decorative character, in which the author combines the female figure, marine landscape, movement, and a rich impressionist technique. An evocative piece evoking summer, freedom, light, and Mediterranean breeze.
