The Cadence of Presences

In The Cadence of Presences, Eve Lezcano places the composition on the threshold between figuration and abstraction. On a blue and turquoise field, a grouping of vertical shapes suggests bodies, profiles, and silhouettes whose identity remains open. The gaze recognizes human hints and then returns to the autonomy of the planes, in a journey that keeps the image’s ambiguity active.

The structure is organized through the alternation of ovals, triangles, and curved surfaces. The shapes approach each other, overlap, and share boundaries, building a continuity that makes it difficult to isolate each presence. The white planes of the upper zone open bright intervals, while the black areas and the dark tones sustain the weight of the whole. This distribution creates an ascending rhythm, traversed by diagonals that shift attention from one end to the other.

Color takes on the construction of space. Reds, yellows, and pinks advance over the cold expanse of the background; greens and turquoises link the intermediate zones and modulate their contrasts. Depth arises from these chromatic relationships and from the superposition, within a surface that retains the visible trace of the brushstroke.

The work develops a condensed figuration, in which a single curve, an inclination, or a change in color suffices to suggest a presence. Its collective dimension arises from the proximity and interdependence of the forms: each one gains meaning through its relation to the others.
