Geometry for Six Strings
In Geometry for Six Strings, Eve Lezcano places the guitar at the center of a composition where still life and figure share a single structure. The instrument, defined by a vertically pronounced red silhouette, organizes the relationships between planes and directs the gaze toward the upper edge of the canvas. Around it, a barely suggested human presence, a bottle and a cluster of fruit-like shapes configure a scene with deliberately open boundaries.
The work develops a cubist-rooted language by reducing objects to their essential signs. Curves, diagonals, and angular surfaces assemble in a space of contained depth, where each element preserves its identity and participates in a common construction. The fine lines of the strings introduce a precise measure against the breadth of the chromatic masses.
The contrast between reds and blues sustains the image’s intensity. Orange accents and white planes distribute the light, while black extensions affirm the structure and give relief to adjacent colors. The visible brushstrokes provide subtle variations within these surfaces, preserving the painting’s material dimension.
The relationship between music and geometry is expressed in repetition, interval, and balance. The guitar provides a recognizable motif and a guide to order the whole: shapes respond to one another, colors alternate in intensity, and the objects acquire a shared rhythm. Thus the artist turns the still life into a visual composition whose cadence invites the viewer to traverse the surface as if following the development of a musical phrase.
