A refined pair of antique Venetian mirrors in Rococo style, with carved giltwood frames and Murano glass, attributed to the Barbini or Salviati workshop in Murano, Venice, Italy.
Description from the seller
Refined pair of antique Venetian mirrors attributed to production by the Barbini or Salviati Glassworks of Murano, specialists in engraving mirrors with a wheel, founded in 1927, one of their early works.
Made in carved and gilded wood with rich floral decoration in the Venetian Rococo Baroque style inspired by the Louis XV Rocaille style.
A notable feature is the engraving of the mirrors with 19th-century images of a lord and a lady in elegant attire, a very beautiful example.
The glass is intact and original, compatible with the period, finely incised with the challenging cold-wheel technique, typical of Murano in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with original patina.
At the top of the "Dama" mirror piece, a natural crack formed in the wood for detachment, not due to accident or fall, but due to age, which certifies its era and handmade construction. The wood is particularly old and has dried, yielding to the tension created by the carving.
The wood is gilded; the mirrors require cleaning to remove dust, we have only lightly cleaned to highlight the original color.
These mirrors have remained in the same family in Venice for at least 70 years.
Dimensions: height 74 cm and overall width 51 cm
The model with the elegant man mirror weighs 1962 grams, while the "Dama" (lady) version weighs 2021 grams
