Description from the seller

A beautiful and early image from the 1950s of the world-famous painting by Jan Steen, depicting “Het ziekenbezoek” (The Sick Visit). The scene shows a doctor visiting a sick woman, as the physician examines her wrist. The portrayal was produced on a teaching placard and was purchased by schools for decoration and to impart knowledge about seventeenth-century Dutch painting in this way.

Info:
Jan Havickszoon Steen (Leiden, 1626 – buried there February 3, 1679) was a Dutch painter from the seventeenth century, the era of Dutch Baroque painting. His work is world-famous for its humorous and ironic view of life. He is best known for his entertaining paintings of a messy and lively household, tavern scenes, and quacks trying to cure love-sickness with medicines. His repertoire also includes serious history paintings, other genre scenes, and some portraits. The Dutch expressions 'een huishouden van Jan Steen' and 'leven in de brouwerij brengen' are derived from his work.
