Description from the seller
Still life of fruit and pitcher
Oil on panel, 20th century – copy after Francisco de Zurbarán
Elegant, updated reading tied to the poetics of Francisco de Zurbarán's still lifes; the painting in question eloquently reprises one of the most recognizable characteristics of the Spanish master: the meditative arrangement of objects within a sober background, enveloped by intimate, grazing light.
The composition features a ceramic jug, a plate full of citrus, and a white cloth, arranged according to a fundamental balance. The materiality of the objects — the dry surface of the terracotta, the softness of the fabric, the luminous skin of the fruits — is rendered through refined chromaticism, dominated by browns, ochres, and greens, with bright accents emerging from the dark background.
The work’s interest lies in its ability to translate the poetics of silence into metaphysical concentration, typical of Spanish still life. Everyday objects assume a suspended presence, in an intense and contemplative atmosphere.
The painting comes from Galerie Troubetzkoy in Paris.
Complementing the work is an elegant, patinated wooden frame, as a homage.
Dimensions: 92 cm x 57 cm.
