Description from the seller

"Letters from the mountains; being the real correspondence of a Lady, between the years 1773 and 1807"

"Lettere dalle montagne: la vera corrispondenza di una signora tra il 1773 e il 1807" by Anne Mac Vicar Grant. 3 volumes, modern hard covers, fourth edition, 1809, London: Longman, Hurst, Rees & Orme,

(19.5 cm x 12.5 cm).

RARE

Anne Mac Vicar Grant was born in Glasgow on 21 February 1755. After growing up in America, she married James Grant, a pastor, in 1779 and accompanied him to his parish at Laggan in the Highlands. Upon his death, in 1800, Anne decided to supplement her income by writing, and in 1803 she published, by subscription, a collection of poetry, mainly on Highland subjects. In 1807 she published a selection of her correspondence from the period spent in the Highlands. The book, "Letters from the Mountains", was a great success, with four editions in two years (this one we present is the fourth and final English edition), perhaps also thanks to its lyrical passages that describe the landscapes of the Highlands.

Renovated covers with the original back title, pages with untrimmed edges, slightly yellowed and with some stains and signs of wear due to age, but overall in excellent condition.
