Description from the seller

Remarkable Greek-Orthodox icon of Saint George and the Dragon – Agios Georgios Tropaiophoros, personally painted and signed by Nikolaos K. Tsilsavvidis from Thessaloniki. The work dates from circa 1990 and was created by the artist when he was about 19 years old and a student.
Nikolaos Tsilsavvidis comes from an established Greek icon painter family. His father Konstantinos Tsilsavvidis was also a professional icon painter and founded the family workshop in Thessaloniki in 1960. The family worked within the Byzantine-orthodox tradition and produced not only icons, but also engaged in church paintings and frescoes.
Important for authenticity and provenance: in September 2026 I had direct WhatsApp contact with Nikolaos Tsilsavvidis. After receiving photos of the icon and the signature, he confirmed in black-and-white that the signature is his, that he personally painted this icon, and that it was around 1990. The full WhatsApp correspondence is preserved and is provided with the work as documentation.
A well-documented early work by a professional Greek icon painter from an established Thessalonian icon painting family.
