Nik Haku - “Goldfish Dream” XL

“Goldfish Dream” XL is a visual artwork by Nik Haku. A goldfish crosses the face of a woman covered in vivid yellow pigment, creating an unexpected encounter between portraiture and the natural world. The cool blue atmosphere evokes the feeling of water—quiet, weightless and distant—while the warm tones bring the image back to something intensely physical.

Artist's Statement:

I wanted the image to carry the sensation of water without actually showing it. There is something calm and almost weightless in the scene, contrasted by the intensity of the yellow and orange. The fish appears to belong to that imagined space, moving through the portrait as if the air itself had become water. The result is deliberately simple, strange and dreamlike.

About the artist:

I’m Nik Haku, a visual artist and photographer exploring the space between the real and the altered.
My practice blends multiple techniques —primarily fine art photography, complemented by painting— to construct images that move fluidly between mediums. My work spans portraiture and landscapes, beginning with photographic capture and evolving through painting, AI, and digital manipulation. I aim to create visual worlds where memory, identity, and imagined space overlap, dissolving the boundaries between what is seen and what is felt.
