Description from the seller
KENNEDY, John Fitzgerald – WANTED FOR TREASON (RICERCATO PER TRADIMENTO)
Two photographic portraits of President Kennedy (one frontal and one profile), a large headline prominently displayed and seven counts of accusation arranged in two columns, printed on pale pink paper. Red morocco protective cover.
Rare leaflet of a strongly polemical nature, written by Robert A. Surrey and clandestinely printed by an employee of a Dallas lithographic printing shop.
According to later testimony given to the Warren Commission, about 5,000 copies of the leaflet were printed, and were distributed on the streets of Dallas, Texas, starting several days before Kennedy's scheduled visit, which tragically ended with his assassination.
Rare poster distributed in Dallas on the occasion of John F. Kennedy's visit in November 1963. The poster bears the inscription “WANTED FOR TREASON” under two photographs of Kennedy, one frontal and one profile, and lists seven charges against him, including “betrayal of the Constitution” and being “negligent in enforcing the Communist registration laws.”
The Warren Commission examined the document and determined that a man named Surrey had it printed about 5,000 copies in the leaflet format, but that Surrey had no connection with Oswald. Nevertheless, over time questions have remained regarding possible links between Dallas extremists associated with these leaflets and Oswald.
Today only a very small number of the leaflets survive, as the vast majority were destroyed before Kennedy’s assassination. Even fewer copies were printed in the large format, of which this is an example.
The poster measures 74 × 58 cm and on the back presents the same content, in Italian. It shows some foxing/stains from time and creases. There are small holes at the fold intersections. Overall, the condition is fair.
Open measurements: 73 × 57 cm. Folded in four, in very good condition.
Large-format Italian version, printed double-sided in English and Italian and distributed as a supplement to an Italian newspaper.
