The last page bears a finished printing "illuminated for the first time on January 15 and for the second on February 18, 1654". (The final page of the response is dated 20th March 1654). One of the aims of the work was to rally the non-specialist public to the cause of effective grace, an objective pursued by Pascal's Provinciales, for which the Enluminures thus served as a dress rehearsal. This text contains many references not found elsewhere on the Jansenist movement in the provinces.
