Description from the seller
Perfume bottle in vermeil silver dating to the mid 18th century, sculpted in Paris 1762-1768
It has a flattened teardrop shape with a modeled neck and stopper; the upper unscrewing part is secured to the bottle with a delicate chain and reveals an inner wooden stopper providing a tight seal.
On the edge of the base, which is small in size, there are on one side: the poinçon de charge for Paris 1762-1768 (A crowned with a palm frond) — probably due to space it is partially impressed (only the central part of the crown is visible); then the poinçon de décharge of Jean Jacques Prevost (dog’s head); furthermore there is an auxiliary census mark (insect).
The bottle was subsequently probably purchased and brought to ROME (STATO PONTIFICIO), where it was again inspected and regularized by the Apostolic Camera (noble College of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths of Rome), which performed an assay to check the silver content with a zigzag scratch under the base and then applied duties and taxes to silver objects from abroad, including France; if everything was in order, it placed on the opposite side of the small base the reconnaissance or customs mark (chamber stamp no. 127) for 1763-1765 (BULGARI).
Dimensions: height 12.5 cm, width 5.0 cm, depth 2.0 cm, weight 75 g
