Chrysanthemums in a brass pot on legs, an oil on canvas by Henk Welther (1885–1947) from the Netherlands, signed lower right, circa 1930, 64 × 54 cm with a 1950s frame, sold with the frame.
Description from the seller
Excellent painting with two orange and three white fluffy chrysanthemums in a brass pot on legs. Signed (and perhaps also painted) by Henk Welther (Delft 13.04.1885 – The Hague 22.03.1947), painter and art dealer, who was murdered for not paying his gambling debts. Henk often signed unsigned works by Aris and Jan (Sr. and Jr.) Knikker, Arnoud van Gilst, Cornelis de Bruin, and Huibert Schallenberg. The latter was an expert in floral still lifes, so perhaps this work is by Schallenberg.
Oil on canvas, 50.5 x 40.5 cm, lower right signed H. Welther, in a newer 1950s frame of 64 x 54 cm. The pins at the back of the canvas frame are tied with strings, something commonly done in the 1920s and 1930s.
The piece is in excellent condition; the painting dates from circa 1930.
