AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The Holy Bible translated into French by Le Maistre de Sacy.

Paris, at Garnier Frères, 1875.

1 volume in-4 (28 x 18.5 cm), half morocco (binding of the period), spine with raised bands, gilt title, initials at tail, head gilt, xi-[1]-994 pages (complete). Very good condition with no foxing.

New Edition Revised by Mr. L'Abbé Jacquet.

Illustrated with 40 steel engravings after the greatest masters of the Italian, French, Spanish, and Dutch schools and a colored map. An additional engraving is included. "The Last Supper" after Leonardo da Vinci.

This translation conducted by Le Maistre de Sacy was made from the Latin version of the Bible (the Vulgate) and from the Greek versions. Proof of its quality, the Bible of Sacy remained, until the end of the 19th century, the great French translation. The purity of its style and its diffusion make it equal to Luther’s Bible in Germany or to the King James Bible in England.

Fine copy.
