Dama Leyendo, a 1940–1950 oil painting from Europe in the Impressionist style, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Title: Lady Reading
School: European Impressionist School (20th century)
Style: Figurative Impressionism
Technique: Oil on cardboard
Condition: General good state of conservation, with possible signs of age and use in keeping with its epoch.
Circle and artistic influence:
The work is framed within the European impressionist and post-impressionist tradition devoted to intimate scenes of daily life. The depiction of a lady reading in a garden-like setting recalls the interest of artists close to the circle of Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt and Pierre-Auguste Renoir in domestic and leisure moments, especially protagonized by female figures. The loose brushwork, the luminosity of the dress and the integration of the figure with the vegetation also show an influence of French impressionism, reinterpreted from a decorative sensibility typical of the 20th century.
The composition represents a young woman seated in profile on a garden chair while holding an open book between her hands. The figure appears dressed in an elegant light blue suit, created with visible and fluid brushstrokes that generate numerous white, bluish and purplish shades. The high collar and ruffles give a refined and evocative character to the attire.
The face, tilted toward the reading, conveys concentration and serenity. The hair gathered in an elaborate reddish bun reinforces the delicacy of the scene and contrasts chromatically with the green tones of the background. The surrounding vegetation is resolved with dynamic and impasto brushwork, building a natural environment of spontaneous appearance where greens, ochres and yellows predominate. The work transmits a tranquil, luminous and intimate atmosphere, characteristic of impressionist painting focused on everyday scenes.
The work is presented with a prominent ornamental frame of great decorative presence, finished in dark and gold tones. It features vegetal reliefs, scrolls and geometric motifs regularly distributed around the entire molding, complemented by an inner gold band that delineates and enhances the painting. The contrast between the richly decorated frame and the luminosity of the scene gives the whole a classic and elegant character.
Observations:
The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In such case, we will specify photographs of the defects to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.
Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by a surcharge due to causes such as being outside a continental territory, excess dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not be responsible for this surcharge.
The courier that must cross the Swiss border can be delayed far beyond normal, so, if possible to speed up processing, we will provide the customs number that is withholding the shipment so that the customer can unlock it and thus reach its destination. Experience has shown that this is the most effective solution for both parties.
Due to the high volume of shipments it is possible that the order is delayed more than three days, we apologize and thank you for your patience. Any questions about your order please contact us via internal messaging.
