Rumi's Mathnawi - Book 3-6, a bound Arabic-language edition of a Persian manuscript with 400 pages, 34 cm by 18 cm, dating from circa 1780, in poor condition.
Description from the seller
A really interesting bound copy of elements of Rumi's Mathnawi ("Spiritual Couplets"), written in Persian manuscript, together with a prose commentary, introduction and companion work throughout in Arabic, discussing mystical and philosophical concepts associated with the Mathnawi. of which Books 3 to 6 of the Mathnawi appear to be copied within, written in Persian manuscript on paper, 17ll of black nasta'liq in two columns, red ruled margins, headings in red, marginal notes. The whole is bound within paper covered boards.
The Mathnawi itself, is a 13th-century Persian mystical poem dictated by the Sufi poet Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi to his student Husam al-Din Chalabi. The complete Mathnawi consists of six volumes (books) containing roughly 25,000 to 27,000 rhyming couplets (over 50,000 individual lines of verse), written in a poetic meter of rhyming pairs (aa, bb, cc) that Rumi made famous in Sufi literature. It is often called the "Qur'an in Persian", being a compendium of Sufi stories, parables, folk tales, and ethical teachings designed to guide seekers through the inner spiritual journey toward union with God.
Despite the condition being poor, this is a rare opportunity to purchase an ancient learned treatise on the Mathnawi and the its influence on Arabic thinking and teachings.
