Circle and artistic influence:
Work linked to the circle of Andalusian costumbrista painting of the 19th century, close to artists interested in representing popular types, equestrian scenes and episodes of Spanish everyday life. The composition reflects influences of costumbrista romanticism developed especially in Andalusia during the century, with affinities to the Sevillian pictorial tradition and to scenes of genre intended for both national audiences and the European traveler. The characterization of the characters, the clothing, the horse and the rural setting respond to that interest in the picturesque and in Spanish popular identity.

The scene represents a costumbrista episode set beside a rural building of simple architecture. In the foreground appears a group of men dressed in traditional attire, gathered around a saddled white horse. One of them holds the reins while another seems to attend to the animal, establishing a narrative composition that suggests a stop or a preliminary preparation for travel.
