Description from the seller

A highly decorative and heavy cast-iron relief plaque (Gussplatte) featuring the image of the legendary Emperor Charlemagne (Latin: Carolus Magnus). This impressive object is executed in the style of Historicism (Neo-Renaissance), dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century and is most likely produced in a renowned German iron foundry (Mannheim/Aachen region).

The emperor is depicted in a romantic and powerful manner in a richly detailed armor with a lavishly pleated cloak. In his hands he bears the traditional symbols of power: the sword and the imperial orb. At his feet a swan is visible and at the top, in relief, the inscription “CAROLVS MAGNVS”.

Originally these kinds of panels were used as a back wall for open fireplaces (fireplace plaque) or as prestigious wall decoration. Today it is a beautiful authentic collectible with a strong historical appearance that fits both classical and industrial interiors.

Condition:
The object is in good, solid condition with a beautifully lived-in, dark patinated surface. Minimal age-appropriate traces of superficial rust and aging, which contribute to the authentic character. No cracks or restorations.

Specifications (exact measurements to fill/check later):
• Material: Cast iron
• Style: Historicism / Neo-Renaissance
• Origin: Germany
• Period: ca. 1900
• Dimensions: ca. 45.5 cm (height) x 20 cm (width at widest point)
• Weight: ca. 5 to 6 kg

The lot is very carefully and securely packaged and shipped by registered mail with insurance.
