Travel document case in wood with brown leather panels decorated in gold-tone motifs, dating to 1950–1960, measuring 20 cm wide, 16 cm high and 8 cm deep, with a front latch and a metal lock and keys visible in photos; in good used condition with age-related marks.
Description from the seller
A distinctive travel case / document holder, made of wood and embellished with panels applied in brown-toned leather, decorated with elegant gilded ornamental motifs.
The case features a characteristic inclined front structure, with molded wooden frames and small supporting feet. The front, side, and top surfaces are decorated with vegetal motifs, tendrils, grape clusters, rosettes and fine gilded filigree, completed by small metal inlays.
Particularly interesting is the front closing system, consisting of a leather tab fixed to the upper part and a decorated metal lock. The keys are visible in the photographs.
In terms of stylistic and construction features, the object is indicative of the 19th century, likely the second half of the century. The dating is proposed as an estimate based on observable characteristics and is not supported by documentation or a definite attribution.
The exact original purpose is not documented; by its shape and construction the case may have been used to store documents, correspondence, or small personal items during travel.
Condition:
The item is offered in its current state, with evident patina and signs consistent with age and use.
There are scratches, abrasions, cracks, surface wear, small losses, irregularities and separations, particularly visible on some panels and along the edges. The structure also shows play and gaps between some wooden elements.
The decorations and metal parts show wear and oxidation consistent with time.
Please carefully study all the photographs, which are an integral part of the description and document the actual state of conservation.
