The painting represents one of the most famous and sought-after subjects of the Tuscan master's production: the rustic interior of an old farmhouse.
The scene, dominated by a large monumental fireplace in which the fire burns, is rendered with a thick, warm brushwork rich in chiaroscuro contrasts. At the table the intimate figure of a boy seen from behind can be noted, absorbed in reading or writing, while in the foreground two hens animate the terracotta floor, a typical element of the Tuscan rural tradition. The work expresses a deep atmosphere of domestic quiet and nostalgia for times gone by.
The gilt frame, contemporary, is in molded wood and groove-work, complete with a light fabric/cardboard mat and gilded trim.
The frame is in excellent condition
It is regarded as a tribute.
