Description from the seller

Hand-carved statue in solid oak of a saint in Carmelite habit with hood and cloak, holding a bouquet of roses against the chest. This points to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux (1873-1897). The statue was presumably produced in the first half of the 20th century, when her veneration in Belgium and the Netherlands was very popular.

The statue stands on a square pedestal carved from the same wood. The finish is sober and lightly stylized, with calm drapery, a finely worked face, and carefully carved hands and roses. The back is fully elaborated, with a continuous hood and mantle folds. Carving marks and small asymmetries indicate hand craftsmanship.
