Kermis bij nacht, Anderlecht is an original oil painting by Leo Bunnens (1871-1960) from Belgium, signed, in good condition, measuring 45 cm high by 34 cm wide, depicting a day scene and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Night scene of a fair on Bravery Square, with a lit church tower with a spire, Belgian flags, stalls and a large illuminated tent. Between them stands a dense crowd in hats and coats. Oil on canvas in an expressive brushstroke with thickly applied paint, bottom right signed "Leo Bunnens".
Based on the architecture (tower with spire, the row of gable-fronted side chapels and a clock turret to the right of the tower) it is presumably the Bravery Square with the St. Peter and St. Guido Church in Anderlecht. A title or inscription is not on the painting. This is an identification based on comparison with old engraving cards and photographs, not documentation.
Léo Bunnens (Lokeren 1871 - 1960) was a Belgian genre and landscape painter. The painting is not dated. Probable dating: first half of the 20th century.
