Description from the seller

Very beautiful religious statue of Flemish folk art representing the Virgin and Child.

The Virgin is crowned, dressed in a hooded mantle and wears on her chest a medallion bearing the symbol of the Christogram (Chi-Rho / XP).

She holds the Infant Jesus in her left arm.

The base, sculpted in the shape of a fortress with four stylized towers, carries two molded inscriptions in Dutch:
Facade: WEES GEGROET (Hail Mary)
Side: BURCHTGRAVINNE (Mistress of the castle, traditional Marian title in the Flemish region)

Subject: Virgin and Child "Burchtgravinne" (Our Lady of the Castle).

Material: Patinated plaster

Style / Origin: Sacred folk art (Belgium / Netherlands), Neo-Gothic style.

Era: Mid-20th century (circa 1940 – 1970).

Finish: Patina with dark wood effect / terracotta.

Condition:
Overall condition: Good used condition.
Details: Beautiful period patina with very light superficial wear and small white original marks on the material (visible in the photos), which confirms a plaster or patinated resin casting. No major losses or cracks.
