Oil on canvas painting Madonna con il bambino, Italian Baroque, 1910–1920, 44 × 32 cm, signed, original, depicting the Virgin and Child, origin Italy.
Description from the seller
Interesting Italian painting from the early twentieth century, depicting the Madonna with the Child, originating from Naples.
The work presents a devotional composition, inspired by the great Italian Renaissance painting tradition. The Virgin is depicted in half-length, with her head gently inclined and wrapped in a wide veil in warm ochre and gold tones. In her arms she holds the Child Jesus, shown in an intimate and affectionate gesture, with his arm resting on the maternal figure.
Particularly evocative are the gazes of the two figures, directed toward the observer, and the soft rendering of the flesh tones. The palette alternates warm and earthy hues with the deep green of the Virgin’s mantle and the pale blue of the background.
The painting is executed on canvas and mounted on its original wooden frame, visible on the back. In terms of stylistic characteristics, execution technique and materials, the work can be placed at the early XX century, within the Italian religious painting production inspired by the models of the old masters.
At the bottom left there is an autograph signature, partially legible. The handwriting seems to be interpretable as “R. Vizzi”, although the attribution of the author has not yet been established; the work is therefore offered as an unidentified Italian author, signed.
The painting shows signs and natural traces of time, compatible with the attributed period, which do not compromise the readability and overall charm of the work. Please carefully observe the photographs, which are an integral part of the description.
