Description from the seller
Available for sale is this decorative bronze Buddha figure from an inherited collection of Asian art and decorative objects.
The Buddha is depicted in the classic meditation pose with crossed legs on a richly decorated, multi-tiered pedestal. The right hand reaches down over the knee, while the left hand rests in the lap with the palm facing upward. This pose corresponds to the Bhumisparsha Mudra ("Touching the Earth"), one of the best-known depictions of the historical Buddha.
The face is calm and meditative, with closed or lowered eyes, long earlobes, and finely worked features. The hair is structured by numerous small curls and is crowned by a high Ushnisha with a flame-like taper.
Particularly striking is the color design. The garment has a strong green‑turquoise patination, while the face, chest, arms, and hands are rendered in a warm bronze/gold tone. The pedestal is darkly patinated and additionally decorated with red, gold-colored, and ornamental elements. On the front there is a particularly plastically worked gold-colored ornamental motif.
