Bronze Buddha seated in Dhyana Mudra with a green patina and gold-toned highlights, about 23 cm high, 16 cm wide, 12 cm deep, weighing 1.227 kg, originating from Thailand, original and in good condition with a decorative multi-tier pedestal.
Description from the seller
For sale is this expressive bronze Buddha figure from an inherited collection of Asian art and decorative objects.
The Buddha is depicted in a classic meditative pose with legs crossed. Both hands lie one over the other in the lap, palms facing upward. This posture corresponds to the Dhyana Mudra, the meditation gesture, and distinguishes this figure from the previous Buddha depiction with a hand directed toward the earth.
The face has a calm, meditative aura with a lowered gaze, long earlobes and finely stylized facial features. The intricately worked curly hair transitions into a high, flame-like crown—a design element typical of Southeast Asian, especially Thai, Buddha representations.
Particularly decorative is the contrasting surface treatment. Robe and legs display an intense green-blue patina, while the face, chest, arms, hands and other details emerge in a warm bronze/gold tone.
The Buddha sits on an elaborately designed multi-tiered base. It is decorated with red-gold lotus motifs and a large, relief-worked gold-colored ornament on the front. The lower base area is dark patinated.
