Lot of two decorative hand-carved wooden monkey statues, typical of traditional woodcarving from Indonesia (Bali).
1980s-1990s
On the left is a compact figurine of two cuddling or clinging monkeys (Romancing Monkeys), often carved from suar wood. In the 1920s-1930s this figure was known as the Amsterdam School.
( Artis monkeys ) this figurine is based on that.
On the right is a more dynamically carved monkey that sits on a rocky base, and a flower? above its head, which in Asian symbolism is often associated with a long and prosperous life.
