Description from the seller
Very decorative standing Art Deco ashtray. The ashtray dates from the 1920s or 1930s of the last century. It is turned from oak and has a hammered (driven) brass ash section (see photos). The ashtray is 58 cm tall, and the diameter of the broad foot is 28 cm. The diameter of the top is about 20.5 cm.
The ashtray has three resting spots for cigarettes that are cast into the ashtray. There are two more holes in this ashtray. Something was once cast into here as well; perhaps a matchbox holder.
The turned shaft is still in good condition. The ash-holder at the top has a pin-in-hole connection and was later fixed with two screws, probably because this wooden joint had loosened as the wood settled (see photos).
The base is extra wide to ensure that the ashtray would not topple over if someone bumped into it. In one small spot the edge of the base has a rough sanding mark (see photo).
The ashtray is a nostalgic object, that used to be a familiar sight in every living room, but is now a rarity.
The ashtray will be carefully packed and insured for shipping.
