Pinchus Krémègne (1890–1981)
A major figure of the School of Paris, Pinchus Krémègne was born in 1890 in Lithuania, then part of the Russian Empire. He settled in Paris in 1912 and quickly joined the Montparnasse circle of artists, rubbing shoulders with Chagall, Modigliani and Soutine.
A painter of color and matter, Krémègne developed an expressive and deeply personal oeuvre devoted to landscapes, still lifes, portraits and nudes. From the 1960s onward, he divided his time between Paris and Céret in the south of France, whose landscapes became a privileged source of inspiration.
Today, his work testifies to the artistic richness of the School of Paris and enjoys a regular presence on the French and international art market.
