Lichtdruck (Photogravure):
The light print, also known as photogravure, is a highly precise printing process used especially in the art and photography industries. It relies on the principle of photochemistry. First, a transparent negative or positive of the desired image is produced. This is laid onto a coated printing plate and exposed under UV light. Where the light hits the coating, it hardens and forms a resistant layer. After exposure, the plate is developed, with the unexposed areas washed away while the hardened layer remains. The plate is then inked and printed onto special paper. The light print allows for high detail accuracy and tonal reproduction, making it particularly suitable for reproducing artworks and photographs. Despite its intricate production, the light print offers exceptional image quality and durability.
