Description from the seller
Richard E. Petit / George Perry – Perry's Arcana: A Facsimile Edition – 2009
An exceptional, scholarly facsimile edition of one of the rarest and most mysterious zoological journals of the Regency era. Originally published in monthly parts between 1810 and 1811 by the English architect and amateur naturalist George Perry, the Arcana, or Museum of Nature was largely forgotten for nearly two centuries.
The original 19th-century serial was deliberately ignored by Perry's contemporaries due to his radical support of Lamarckian evolutionary theory over Linnaean classification. Today, only 13 complete copies of the original work are known to exist worldwide.
Illustrations: Features modern digital reproductions of all 84 original hand-colored plates (depicting mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, mollusks, insects, and plants)
Condition Report:
Dust Jacket: Very Good to Near Fine. The illustrated jacket displays vibrant colors and crisp text. Only minimal shelf wear or faint rubbing to the edges.
Binding: Excellent / Near Fine. Beneath the jacket, the original sea-green cloth boards are square, tight, and exceptionally clean with perfectly sharp corners.
Interior: Pristine. The internal pages, text, and plates are entirely clean, bright, and free of foxing, marks, inscriptions, or structural damage.
Dimensions: Oversize Quarto approx. 29 cm x 23 cm
Page Count: 576 pages
Photos supplement descriptions. Please study photos carefully.
