AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Gorgeous very early watercolor/ink drawing by Corneille titled 'Aan de Amstel (Amsterdam)' from 1946. Bring a museum piece into your home with this unique work by one of the Netherlands' greatest artists.

Corneille lived in the war years and afterwards until around 1950 in Amsterdam and attended the art and craft school and the Rijksacademie (where he also met Karel Appel, just after the war in 1945). In 1946 he had his first solo exhibition in Groningen. In 1947 Corneille traveled to Paris together with Karel Appel and in 1948 the CoBrA art movement was founded.

Corneille was only 24 years old when he made this small piece Aan de Amstel; it is rare for such an early work by one of the Netherlands' best-known artists to become available for a private collection. On close observation there is even a fingerprint of Corneille visible in the ink that remained when the work was made!

The provenance of this work is guaranteed by the Foundation Guillaume Corneille. It comes with a certificate signed by Mrs N. (Natacha) Van Beverloo (Natacha Suzanne Laktionoff), widow of Corneille.

The drawing measures 14 x 13.3 cm and is framed in the original frame with museum glass with a size of 48 x 47 cm. If you prefer a different frame, this is of course possible.

Optionally, our framing workshop can re-frame this artwork entirely to your wishes. Contact us for a price indication or to make an appointment with our framery. View all of our CoBrA art at Modern Dutch Art Gallery (ModernDutchArtGallery.com)
