Description from the seller

Virgin of Carmel with Child Jesus and Scapulars – Circa 1940 – Polychromed composite material – Religious mural image

Beautiful mural image of the Virgin of Carmel with the Child Jesus, attributed to the mid-20th century (circa 1940), made in composite material, with rich polychromy and numerous sculptural details.

It is a traditional devotional sculpture piece, of notable size and weight, with an especially elegant and solemn presence. Its composition follows the aesthetics of religious images intended for domestic devotion, small altars, and private chapels.

The Virgin and the Child Jesus appear crowned and bearing the Carmelite scapulars, with ornate halos inspired by the Baroque. The expressiveness of the faces, the folds of the garments, and the decorative details of the composition stand out.

The polychromy presents warm tones and a patina consistent with the attributed antiquity. There are slight signs of superficial aging, including some crazing, which are part of the piece’s current appearance.

With a height of 34 cm and a weight of 1,615 grams, this image offers a considerable presence for its mural format.

It retains a rear metal hook for wall mounting, allowing it to be exhibited on a domestic altar, a chapel, or a religious art collection.

FABRICATION DETAILS AND CHARACTERISTICS

The rear photo allows appreciating the concave surface, rough texture, finish of the material, and the metal suspension system.

The image is made of composite material, widely used in the manufacture of traditional religious images.

Its modeling, ornamentation, and polychromy correspond to a classical devotional aesthetic, with details inspired by European traditional religious imagery.

The piece has no visible marks or signatures from the maker, and is offered as an anonymous work in a traditional style, attributed to the mid-20th century.

The photographs allow examination of its characteristics, finish, patina, and condition.
