Brass coal scuttle – classic helmet-shaped model with wooden handles

Background

In English, this type is known as a helmet-shaped coal scuttle. The model was used to store and replenish coal beside the hearth. Similar helmet-shaped brass coal scuttles are in museum collections, including a British example from around 1870 in the Museum of the Home. The form continued to be produced later as well; the exact age and origin of this example have not been determined.

Condition

With clear signs of use and age: scratches, dings, localized discolorations and a dark patina. Inside, green oxidation is visible.
