Figure - Madonna che prega - Glass

Celebrated Madonna bust in satin glass in the Art Déco style, originally designed by the Austrian sculptor Franz Hagenauer in 1937 for the renowned Bohemian manufactory Curt Schlevogt.
The sculpture was produced using a specific mold and features a finely etched or satin finish. The most fascinating peculiarity of this piece is the type of glass used, often identified as neodymium glass or alexandrite: this material has the dichroic property of changing color depending on the light source, shifting from a purple/violet shade under natural or incandescent light to a bluish color under fluorescent light.
Over the years, this iconic design has been reproduced and also cast by other major glassworks, including some historic Murano furnaces such as Cesare Toso from the 1960s onward.
