Madonna, an oil painting by Carlo Esposito (XX) from 1990–2000, in the Renaissance style, depicting the Virgin with a pale veil and red mantle, produced in Italy, measuring 46 by 40 cm and weighing 2 kg, signed and in good condition, sold with a gilded ornate frame.
Description from the seller
With frame:
40x46cm
Without frame:
24x33cm
This painting depicts a Madonna (or Virgin Mary) face in a classic devotional style, characterized by a melancholic and contemplative expression. The composition draws strong inspiration from sacred painting of the Italian Renaissance and the Seicento (with influences reminiscent of Raphael or Scipione Pulzone), but in terms of the softness of the features and the materials of the period it seems to be an artwork datable to the 19th to early 20th century.
Visual details of the work
Subject
The face of the Virgin, slightly reclined and looking downward, wears a light veil and a red mantle. On the chest stands out a small decorative brooch or clasp.
Signature
On the left side, at the level of the veil against the blue background, a cursive signature of the copyist can be seen.
Frame
The painting is set in a sumptuous raised-gold frame richly decorated with eclectic or Baroque floral and foliate motifs, which enhances its decorative and antique appearance.
