AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Jacques MARTIN-FERRIERES (1893-1972) Bouquet on a Table
Oil on canvas - oil painting - unframed

87 x 65 cm

Martin-Ferrieres then begins studies in literature and science. This scientific degree will greatly serve him later thanks to his knowledge of chemistry, which will allow him to work on his painting techniques.

It is in the 1920s that the artist begins to win prizes, such as the Silver Medal at the Paris Salon for “The Christ.” After returning from his trip to Italy, Martin-Ferrieres sets up his first solo exhibition. After winning the Gold Medal for “Assisi March,” critics grow more and more interested in him and agree that this painter has talent.

The year 1933 is synonymous with travels in southern Europe. His painting and especially his colors change according to the country in which he finds himself, with a light more or less pink in Greece, or very vivid in Spain.

The war period interrupts his travels to practice the Resistance in Dordogne. Travel resumes across Europe and especially in Italy, a land that strongly inspires Martin-Ferrieres.

His success allows him to undertake commissions, one of which keeps him busy for nearly four years creating large frescoes at the Church of Saint-Christophe de Javel in Paris.

He is named Officer and then Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Martin-Ferrieres proves, through his paintings, his deep interest in human beings and life. Everything he works on becomes an artistic element, even though he tackles very classical themes: portraits, landscapes, still lifes… A great colorist, Martin-Ferrieres blends warm and cool colors at the same time in a non-aggressive whole.
