Oil on panel still life titled Lentegroen landschap – Ardennen by Belgian artist Henri Valery Vanderpoorten (1897–1977), dated 1925, in excellent condition, 38 × 30 cm, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Henry-Valéry Vander Poorten (Laeken, 1897 – 1977) was a Belgian modernist painter and illustrator. He signed his graphic work under the names Valéry, Atelier Henval and Studio Henval.
He studied at the Academy of Brussels from 1913 onwards. His father Valéry Vander Poorten (1875-1932) was also a well-known artist. After World War I he was closely involved in the emergence of modernism in Belgium.
That latter fact is evident not only from a number of experimental works in which influences of Futurism, Cubism and Expressionism are visible. Also in his designs for music scores Vanderpoorten shows himself a modernist.
Vander Poorten became primarily known for the more than 55 sheet-music covers that he designed as a collaborator for music publishers Schott Freres, J. Buyst, International Music Company, A. Crantz, R. Roelandts, Ch. Bens and Editions Vergucht (all in Brussels) in the period 1927 to 1941.
In the 1930s he also painted many plein air pieces here and there in Europe. Notably is his trip through Finland and Lapland in 1937.
