Description from the seller
In “Silences on the Sea,” Kino Mistral builds an image of intense suggestion, in which the female figure occupies almost the entire pictorial space, with a nocturnal marine landscape glimpsed in the background. Executed in oil and dripping on panel, measuring 40 × 30 cm, the work interweaves sensuality, mystery, and decorative details through a close-up composition, dominated by the face and the gesture of the hand.
The portrait cut excludes the eyes and concentrates attention on the lips, set aflame by a vivid red, pierced by a finger held horizontally. This gesture introduces the theme of silence with delicate ambiguity: it may evoke an invitation to discretion, a guarded thought, or a moment of contemplation. The extended fingers, punctuated by dark nails, sketch a sinuous movement that guides the eye from the mouth to the neck and the décolleté.
The flesh tones develop through golden, ochre, and amber hues, modeled by brown shadows that give volume to the face and the hand. The black hair frames the figure with broad dark masses, creating a strong contrast with the skin’s luminosity. The red of the lips becomes the painting’s chromatic fulcrum and finds an echo in the small elements of the earring and in the pendant of the necklace.
The latter, oval in shape, features a red background traversed by a dense golden lattice, much like a precious ornamental weave. The chain, composed of small bright touches, follows the curve of the neck and introduces a fine rhythm into the relaxation of the forms. The oil-and-dripping technique enriches the language of the painting, linking volume construction with graphic accents and decorative details.
On the right edge, a portion of sky in pale blue and deep blue, dotted with small luminous marks, opens above the sea and a dark silhouette of the shore. A red crescent suspended in the sky gives the landscape a fantastical character, transforming it into an emotional space rather than a naturalistic view. The cool tones of this coastlet balance the warmth of the figure and suggest the deep quiet of the night.
“Silences on the Sea” thus offers an encounter between human presence and the Mediterranean atmosphere, in which gesture, color, and ornament contribute to evoking a calm beauty, safeguarded between intimacy and dream. The work bears the artist’s signature and is accompanied by an appraisal signed by the artist.
