Superb lot bringing together EC Portfolio Three and EC Portfolio Four, published by Russ Cochran in 1973, two magnificent large-format portfolios dedicated to EC Comics' mythical classics.
These portfolios are part of the famous prestige reprint series initiated by Russ Cochran in the early 1970s, aimed at preserving and presenting, in an exceptional format, the works of the great EC Comics artists.
EC Portfolio Three – Weird Fantasy: Portfolio Three notably includes pages and covers from Weird Fantasy, including the famous Weird Fantasy #21 (1953), with its cover drawn by Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta. It also features works by Wally Wood, Graham Ingels, John Severin, Al Feldstein, and other great EC artists. The portfolio comprises 44 pages and presents black-and-white reproductions with color covers.
EC Portfolio Four – Weird Science: Portfolio Four is devoted notably to Weird Science and includes several iconic EC Comics stories and illustrations. The cover features the famous drawing by Wally Wood originally created for Weird Science #9, recolored for this edition by John Severin.
Among the artists represented are Wally Wood, Graham Ingels, Harvey Kurtzman, Al Williamson, Bernie Krigstein, and John Severin.
The two portfolios are particularly remarkable for their very large format of about 11.25 × 16.5 inches (approximately 29 × 42 cm) and for their reproduction quality.
