Description from the seller

Byzantine/Eastern Orthodox icon of Mary with the Child Jesus. The specific iconography and the symbolic meaning behind this image can be explained as follows:
A copy of the original 15th-century masterpiece located in the famous Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow ("Copy of icon from Tretyakov Gallery").
Age: It bears XV century. This refers to the century of the original artwork (the 15th century), not to the age of this wooden panel itself.
This wooden icon from the 20th century was made.
• The Maker: In the bottom right, the panel is signed with the name Witold Twardo. He was a Polish artist/craftsman known for creating high-quality, hand-painted icons with traditional egg tempera.
Often painted on an older wooden panel with aging patina, often supplied with traditional crossbars (also called sponki) to counteract warping of the wood on a sturdy wooden panel. Many copies feature a gold-colored background or mandorla (halo) to symbolize the divine light.
It will be sent by registered mail with PostNL track & trace.
