Description from the seller
Wildflowers in Joy
Original Acrylic Painting by Marja Brown | 40 × 55 cm | Unstretched Canvas
About the artwork
Wildflowers in Joy is an original semi-abstract landscape from my Gardens of Joy series, celebrating the freedom, abundance and quiet happiness I find in nature.
Against a softly atmospheric sky, wildflowers and grasses rise from the foreground in layers of white, violet, burnt orange and luminous yellow-green. The flowers have been built with expressive, textured applications of acrylic paint, giving the surface a tactile quality and allowing the changing light to play across the painting.
Beyond the flowers, the landscape gently recedes towards the horizon, while two birds cross the open sky. There is a sense of looking through a wild garden into something spacious and peaceful beyond — a moment of nature allowed simply to be itself.
The painting was created intuitively, allowing colour, movement and texture to develop organically rather than working from a tightly controlled composition. It is this spontaneity that gives Wildflowers in Joy its feeling of movement and life.

About the artist
I am a British-based artist working from my studio in Dorset, creating expressive landscapes and semi-abstract works inspired by the natural world. My work explores light, atmosphere, texture and the emotional experience of landscape, with paintings held in private collections and presented through galleries, exhibitions and online international art platforms.
Gardens of Joy marks a joyful new direction in my work — bringing the freedom of my landscape painting together with expressive flowers, colour and texture.
Wildflowers in Joy is ultimately about that simple moment when we stop, look, and allow the beauty of the natural world to lift us.
Seller's Story
I am a Dutch-born artist living and working in Dorset, England. For many years I have been inspired by the changing skies, rolling landscapes, and coastal beauty of the British countryside. My work is held in private collections and has been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions across southern England.
I specialise in contemporary semi-abstract landscape paintings, working primarily in acrylic on canvas. My paintings are often inspired by moments of stillness, light, and connection with nature, with a particular focus on expansive skies and atmospheric horizons. Each piece is an original artwork created in my Dorset studio.
The works I offer on Catawiki come directly from my own studio collection. Many belong to my ongoing "Meditation in Light" series, which explores the ever-changing relationship between light, colour, and landscape. My approach combines intuitive painting with years of artistic experience, creating works that aim to bring a sense of peace, space, and contemplation to the viewer.
I am passionate about creating art that connects emotionally with people and transforms a room through colour, light, and atmosphere. Every painting is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and is carefully prepared for safe international shipping.
